4 Facts You Should Know About Email Marketing Benefits

Email marketing may seem like it’s old hat. In fact, people new to marketing may think it lacks the sparkle and novelty of social media, and therefore don’t even consider it.

But there is something to be said for the fact that every major internet marketing master, every professional writer, every major online presence – from restaurant chains to Ray Higdon, has an option to collect your email address, complete with an incentive or free gift.

It works.

Let’s look at some mind-blowing facts about the benefits of email marketing.

1. The numbers.

 According to Kissmetrics:

Did you know that email has nearly three times as many user accounts as Facebook and Twitter combined? That’s a whopping 2.9 billion.

In fact, if you imagine a full cup of rice is the number of emails sent every day, then by comparison, all the daily posts on Facebook would make a miserable 10 grains—barely enough to pick up with a chopstick. And all the tweets sent every day would be a measly 4 grains. In fact, Facebook and Twitter combined make up just 0.2% of the number of emails sent each day.

Read that again. I did. The number of email sent daily dwarfs the number of social media messages.

But wait, there’s more.

2. People are more likely to spend more.

With the right email marketing strategy, you will get customers who sign onto your list and stay there. Furthermore, they will click your links, surf your site for the purpose of buying and they will spend more money. Social media doesn’t even come close.

3. People WANT to hear from you.

Whether or not people want to buy right away, you know that when they opt into your list, they want to be there. They are giving you permission to send them information, sell to them and connect with them. Whereas traditional interruption advertising like TV ads and pop up banners are almost always ignored, your email is welcomed.

It is easy for people to hit the forward button and share with others who are like-minded. And that means potentially more subscribers and more customers.

4. You get everyone in one place.

Some love Google Plus, while others are diehard Facebook or Twitter fans. When they are in social media, they have certain expectations as to how they will spend their time there – namely socializing. You get the full spectrum of users in one forum – email. You can present your information, drop links and invite them to contact you.

Now, I am not saying that social media is a waste of time. On the contrary, the numbers are there. But ignoring email can cost you, literally.

How To Jumpstart Your Own Email Marketing Campaign

After reading those facts, you undoubtedly want to get started with your own campaign. If you already have one, skim this section and move on to the next one.

Without further ado, let’s get started.

Step 1: The Autoresponder

An autoresponder is God’s gift to email marketers. If you remember the mid-90s, you would have to put everyone in your email into a special group and then email people that way. Some business professionals STILL use this method. Tsk Tsk.

Autoresponders are automatic. That means, when you set one up, a person from Germany can visit your site at 3 am and opt in. They start receiving content right away. When you wake up in the morning, you can see who joined. That’s it. Easy.

Top autoresponders are:

  1. Aweber

  2. iContact

  3. Get Response

  4. Benchmark Email

Aweber is by far the most used autoresponder and works well with many different programs that complement email marketing campaigns. It depends on how much you are willing to spend. Right now, Aweber is only $20 a month.

Others, like Mailchimp, are free up to a certain amount of subscribers. It is a great way to experiment with email marketing, but beware, if your list grows and you want to switch, you may have some trouble moving from one autoresponder to the next.

Step 2: Setting Up Your Autoresponder

Each one is different. So instead of going into the details here, I can point you in the direction of learning how to set one up.

Each autoresponder has their tutorial. Follow it carefully. For further questions, contact support or go to the forums, which can be very helpful.

YouTube is also a very helpful place to learn how to set up. They have great tutorials on YouTube and you can learn anything from set up to growing your list to increasing conversions. You can visit my channel here:

Step 3: Write Your Email

The beauty of autoresponders is that you don’t have to write the same email every time someone joins. The autoresponder will do that automatically. All you have to do is write the emails, save them in the autoresponder and it does the rest.

First email that goes out should be a welcome email. Introduce yourself and drop links and contact info.

Write at least ten emails to get started. These are called follow-up email. Schedule them out so that they go out regularly.

If you want to write to your list about a promotion that came up, you can send a broadcast email.

Those are the basics of setting up an email marketing campaign. Now, let’s get into more advance techniques.

3 Ways to Ramp Up Your Email Marketing Strategy

Now that you know the basic mechanics of setting up an e-mail marketing campaign, you can learn how to create a campaign that will help you get sales.

As much as you think that sending out email is about selling right from the get-go, it is not. If you are in retail, then putting a sales page with links to promotions is much more acceptable early on in the campaign than if you are a consultant or services provider.

The real secret is to build a relationship with your list.

Build a relationship? But don’t they already want to be there?

Yes, but you want to KEEP them on your list. If you start pitching them sales promotions that give them no value, they will leave – and they won’t buy anything.

According to Copyblogger:

Remember, the success of any email marketing program depends on genuinely compelling content. You want your readers to dig through spam filters, complain to their email providers, and do anything they can to make sure they’re getting your content.

Most email newsletters are pitchfests, which makes them no fun to read. Make sure yours is nicely loaded with cookie content, so readers begin to be trained to open everything you send.

You got them interested, now make them fall in love.

1. Think of problems your readers have.

Let’s say you sell services to manage small business owners’ social media accounts. What is their top concern?

  • Not having time to post.

  • Not knowing what to post.

  • Not knowing where to post (for their industry, like Twitter, Facebook, etc.).

There are three big problems that you can create email content for. Start brainstorming solutions to these problems to send to your list.

2. Create epic content.

Anyone can say, “Post in Facebook everyday.” Yawn.

What is REALLY going to help the small business owner?

Give them formulas, ideas for posts, what to say, how to use hashtags, etc., etc.

In fact, you can create a free ebook to get them to sign up, like, “101 status updates for Facebook,” or “How To Hijack Twitter For Premium Posting Ideas.” It’s juicy, it’s useful and it helps them immensely.

3. Create titles that don’t suck.

Titles are the most important piece of real estate for your content. If you send them a great email about YouTube, but title it, “How To Use YouTube,” NO ONE is going to open it.

Instead, use numbers like, “5 Top Tricks For Hitting Paydirt with YouTube.”

Or use a How To title like, “How To Increase Your Sales by 300%.”

Now that you know how to create email that your readers will love to open, let’s move on the the grand finale – sales.

Let’s take a look at this infographic that tells you how to build an email list. There are great suggestions that you can implement now to help you create a giant list that will pay you over and over.

How To Set Up Your Email Marketing Strategy to Sell For You

The general formula is 4-6 value-driven email for one promotional email. Even the promotional email should have some nugget in it to give it extra value.

There are a plethora of ways to generate income from your list.

  • Sell consulting or coaching services.
  • Sell recurring or one-time memberships.
  • Create info products (ebooks, video series, audio recordings, etc.).
  • Joint ventures (products with other professionals, tapping both lists).
  • Affiliate products.
  • Local or online seminars.

Develop your products and make sure to work out all the bugs before sending them out.

One very important thing to remember – make sure your products are relevant.

Going back to that small business owner who needs help with social media, send that subscriber products that have to do with social media. You can also send them related products, such as writing courses for social media, how to take pictures for social media and how to shoot videos for better YouTube engagement.

Ideas flowing yet?

I hope you are as excited as I am about all of the possibilities with email marketing. Many people not only make a full-time income, but also become millionaires from their email marketing skills.

How much you make depends on you.

This of course, is not an exhaustive course on email marketing. It will get you going in the right direction.

If you have never tried email marketing, you may be struggling to get sales and leads. The agony of a feast or famine business, or worst yet, a business of just famine, can wear on any entrepreneur.

If you have the guts to dive into the world of email marketing, then you have a shot at some really lucrative paydays.

How lucrative?

Try 5 figures. Per month. That’s if you work hard, constantly improve your strategy and keep going against all odds. Even then, not everyone makes it. But enough people do. And that demonstrates how possible it is.

You have to keep in mind the bigger picture than just money.

Being devoted to your audience is more than just practicing the highest of business ethics; it is lucrative.

Caring about your audience, your business, the content you create, the marketing you do, seems to be rare nowadays, where most online marketers have resorted to shouting, spamming or berating potential business.

If you want to rise above the useless noise that has become the internet, then you need to take action today – now.

Study the different autoresponders to see which is best for you. Pick a good host. Hire a writer, or write compelling, valuable emails yourself.

Always be improving.

Being victorious in the struggle against poor marketing means you have to roll up your sleeves and get to work. Having a great email marketing strategy will boost you with the traction you need.

Comment below on what action you have just taken to launch your own email campaign.
